I’ve always been a Scott fan. Up until I used the Opti Stream, the Scott G2 was my go-to 5wt. It’s a great rod. It’s definitely no match for the Opti Stream, however. This rod just get’s the job done. I’ve never fished a 5wt that has this combination of delicacy and power. It’s hard to explain but when I fish this rod it just feels right. Light in hand, accurate, and responsive. Balances perfectly with the Dry Fly reel.

I bought this rod because it came in second in the Yellowstone Angler 5wt Shootout (one of the biggest rod reviews anywhere), outperforming all the top of the line rods I already owned. I have always wanted a LOOP set up and this review pushed me over the edge. I bought it, fished it and I won’t buy anything else. The Opti Stream is like an extension of your arm. It is extremely responsive, lays line out easily and enables and is light. I recently forgot my stealhead set up on a Great Lakes Trib 3 day trip. I used my 5wt Opti Steam with my Dry Fly Opti Reel and it performed incredibly all weekend. Fine tuned enough to catch the pickiest fish sipping dry flies and strong enough to perform well above its paygrade.

This Rod can cast and fish like no other, unlike other Loop rods I have fished this rod has one achille’s heel. The tip section is prone to break if you are not careful. All the other Loop rods I own and fish take a beating, this rod should be babied more than the rest. If not for this flaw it would be 5 stars all the way! Good thing Loop warranty rocks the house!!!

My go to dry fly rod. Super accurate! Excellent power on longer casts. Rod construction is tops and I can’t believe the strength in wind for how light it is. Just aim and go! Just a well put together rod.

This Rod is terrific! I have owned Sage and TFO Rods and, like the guy above, bought this rod without testing based on the Yellowstone Angler Shootout. It is accurate as all get out, mends so well to the fly, and is both powerful, especially when loaded with 6-WT line, and delicate with just the factory loop line (which really helps with cast extension) and DryFly reel. I went for it on this set up and am pleased! When I bought this Rod the salesman tried to talk me into the Cross Rod for $300 more and WARNED me that the tips are prone to snap; I have now snapped two tips this summer and HAVE NEVER broke or snapped a rod in 25 years of fishing. This is a significant design flaw, as the tips have snapped in identical places both times in the past 3 weeks fishing only 8 times so far this year and i have owned this rod for three seasons; this concerns me regarding wear and tear. I’ll give a 4 Star Rating because of this, I am now $120 into two new end pieces. They are quick with turn around warranty but I sure would appreciate financial help with this rod tip problem and hope they see that this issue belongs with them, not the fishermen. I am hopeful a redesign will fix this as this rod is the bomb otherwise!

I have owned a lot of 5wts in my life but at 76 years old this is the best one I have ever used and I love it.
